It's a matter of trying to identify small problems, and their solutions, quickly.

Naturally, we're so unimportant that we won't leave so much as a dent in this world. But we can dream, eh?

bloodie and Camelia, some time ago, around 1866, a foreign prince was brought in to rule our land. That went well.

Maybe having elections where the candidates would have to be approved by Nelson Mandela and Obama and the Dalai Lama, blabla, would yield better results.

Then we'd have to persuade people to show up to the vote. Chances are, some of those politicians would do a great job.

How does that sound?

bloodie: Is this Lost and I didn't get it? :P

Well, I didn't have in mind elections. I actually thought about some competition, with rules and a jury (not us, as a nation we proofed enough).
I called it national because I think anyone in this country should have the right to participate.

Horia: Hell, I'm ready to be occupied just to get rid of these people that "rule our country"! I shall willingly learn German and patriotically sing their anthem!

Camelia, national contest? Sounds like classic elections :)

I propose: Survival of the fittest!

Camelia, right now, everything's possible. And yes, a radical change in out political system is much needed. As long as we're ready to deal with all the other issues that will arise after that. And after the politicians, we'll have to go after the people that once supported them, and turn them around.

Cristina, what you said is exactly what we need. Too often I've heard people give out solutions as advice, but never partake. What about starting on your own, and then trying to build up a following?

It's not my idea, but it's one I totally agree with: be the change you want to see in the world. It not only makes one less contribution to what you think is wrong, but you also set an example for the ones around you (who may have never thought about changing anything before seeing the change you bring, or maybe had thought about it, but never had the courage to make it, or never found a way to start it).

Examples of what changes I'm interested and feel I can make: treat public places with the same care I treat my own (yup, should be common sense, but the dirt on the streets shows it's not so common), don't give bribe (no paid exams in school, paid my fine instead of making a deal with the clerk who was so eager to hear my offer, and even with doctors - my mom managed to get their full attention by demanding it loudly, and not by kissing their butts), think for myself and encourage others to do the same, try to see something good in those around me and help it grow (it may sound naive to the skeptics, but it has worked quite a few times). And many other small things like these, which would make my comment unreadably long :D

And yes, none of the above is going to turn the world around in a short time, especially if coming from a small number of people. But so far it's what I can do and it's more than passively complaining about the whole shit. Plus, I believe all deep changes truly happen bottom-up, not the other way around.
