Cuba Libre, one of my favorite drinks, is essentially rum mixed with coke, some ice, and a few slices of lemon or lime. Easy to make, yeah?
Last night, I asked for a Cuba Libre made with sugarfree coke and I got a Cuba Libre with sugarfree coke, ice, sugar on the bottom of the glass and a sugar frosted lemon wedge?
Seriously, what’s your damage?
And this happened in The Irish Pub, one of my favorite get-together spots.

Kind of ironinc, don’t you think? You asked for a drink with sugar-free coke and you got sugar-free coke lots of regular sugar
) Seems to me like someone completeley munderstood the whole meaning of “sugar free”
Raka, yes! It took me some time to notice the sugar, really. Since I don’t normally check for sugar on the bottom of my Cuba Libre. But when I did, I was dumbfounded. Then I was amused. Then I still left a tip.
Had the same reaction when I saw a ton of undissolved sugar on the bottom of my ‘lemonade, with honey instead of sugar, please’. At the Symphony Cafe (the one right next to the national theater entrance, on the left). Sometimes I don`t get what`s not to get, really. It`s not even like the waitress tried to stir for a bit so I wouldn`t notice. I take personal offense with this kind of stuff.
ily, I don’t take offense that easily, and I guess I like giving some people a second chance. But this is not ok on any scale. What if you’re allergic to nuts and you ask for some walnut free desert, and the cook or waiter decides to spice it up with some almonds?
Almonds are seeds.
ily, right! And by that logic, I want you to point out any record of a girl ( or boy ) that is ( or was ) allergic to nuts.
may I remind you the fact that rum itself is made out of sugary byproducts? aka whatever is left from creating sugar, but still has enough sweets in it (so that it will ferment from sugar to alcohol) is sent to be transformed into rum. in Cuba, of course.
obviously, adding more just before you drink it doesn’t really help, you should leave it there for some time so that it gets transformed into alcohol

oh, I get it now, stormrider. He was only trying to put more rum in my drink, for free. He was actually trying to help me out or .. get me drunk quicker.
I knew I left that tip for a good reason
